It is mostly recommended by the dentist to brush teeth twice a day, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash daily and use sugar-free gum between meals. It would be a good idea to encourage your children to eat less candy as it can help prevent cavities but also has other health benefits. Besides this, also establish good dental health practices in kids to help reduce future health concerns, including improved heart health, lower risk of diabetes, cancer, stroke and more.
Tips for preventing cavities with sugar –
a) We should indulge in nutritious meals instead of snacking especially before bed.
b) We should drink plenty amount of water every day. If possible, we should resist the urge to sip sugary beverages between meals.
c) Don’t forget to swish your mouth with plain water after snacking and wait about 30 minutes to brush your teeth.
d) To reduce cavity-causing bacteria, we should chew some Xylitol gum. Through an elevated pH mouth rinse, you can neutralize acidity in your mouth.
e) Vitamin D is important to help absorb calcium and phosphate from the food you eat. Milk and yogurt and all dairy products are a good source of Vitamin D. Besides this, we should have lots of fruits, vegetables, crunchy nuts, apples, celery, and carrots to clean teeth. Such food items produce saliva, which helps to clean teeth and wash away the plaque acid.
Generally, it is seen that many of the dental problems, even deep cavities, develop without any pain or other symptoms. But with regular dental checkups, you can easily catch the cavity before it gets worse. There are various home remedies to get rid of cavities such as intake of Vitamin D, oil pulling, chewing gums. These methods may keep cavities from getting bigger and prevent new ones from coming but they are not a permanent solution. The earlier a cavity is detected, the easier it will be for your dentist to repair it, so be sure to visit your dentist on a regular basis.
